This year I will be serving on the executive board for the Ball State University Dance Marathon as the co-director of the Marketing and Communications Committee! This will be my third and final year participating in Dance Marathon here at Ball State University since I am graduating a year early. I have grown so much as an individual from being part of this organization. As a director, my goal is to raise $1,500 for the kids. All money raised will benefit the children of Riley Hospital for Children located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ball State University funds the Magic Castle Cart and the Palliative Care program.
Bob Baxter, the former president of the Riley Children's Foundation, started the Magic Castle Cart program over 15 years ago. Volunteers give patients some gifts including: crayons and coloring books, puzzles, stuffed animals, and much more! The program has about 20 volunteers who distribute more than 20,000 gifts to patients, siblings, and even parents annually. Approximately $30,000 is required annually to fund the Magic Castle Cart program.
Palliative Care is also funded by Ball State University. This program focuses on providing relief from symptoms, pain, and stress of serious illness, no matter the diagnosis. The goal of the Palliative Care program is to improve quality of life for both the child and the family. With the close communication that this program provides, families are better able to choose options in line with their own values.
